As the successor to the proven 428H, the 428HD used a new technology for manufacturing the rolls. Previously, the rolls were wound from sheet metal strips, which created a seam and thus a weak point. With the new technology, the rollers are made of round material, thus avoiding a seam.

Compared to the standard 428D chain, the 428HD is reinforced with thicker link plates and therefore has a much higher tensile strength.
