The regulator or rectifier converts the alternating voltage generated by the alternator into a direct voltage of 12V, which is used in the vehicle electrical system. The voltage is kept within a certain tolerance range. This ensures that the battery remains charged and bulbs do not burn out.
As this component is exposed to extreme temperatures, it often fails. If the rectifier or regulator is defective, the battery remains constantly flat. With certain ignition systems, the ignition system can fail, bulbs burn out constantly or the headlights start to flicker.
